Pool Heaters

Choosing the right pool heater is probably the most important step in the purchase of a pool heater system. Determining which pool heater system is best for you depends on your specific needs, budget and the design of your pool and house. Let Lake Norman Pool and Spa Professionals help you purchase/install the perfect heater to extend your pool season. The three basic types of pool heating systems: Heat Pump, and Gas (Natural and LP) Heater and Solar.

Heat Pump
Heat Pump heaters keep pools heated at a consistent temperature between 80-90 degrees, and are a necessity for those who enjoy using their swimming pools year-round. Heat pumps are given a special rating called the COP (coefficient of performance) rating, which is generally given a numeric value of 3 to 6 COP, which converts to an efficiency of 300 to 600%.Cost to operate heat pumps is low because they are so energy efficient. You will usually get about one dollar's worth of heat for 20 cents paid for electric input. It typically costs between $250 to $500 per year to heat a swimming pool. Some units with chillers will actually help keep your pool cooler in the summer

Gas Heaters
Gas Heaters are preferred if you choose to heat pools for shorter durations of time. They are ideal for quick heating when guests are visiting and for second homes or
vacation homes where the pool is not heated on a regular basis. Gas heaters are usually oversize, and can maintain any temperature regardless of the weather. Unfortunately, because of the low efficiency of gas heaters, their operating cost is usually high. A $1.00 worth of heat requires $1.20 or more of fuel. The average pool using gas to heat will characteristically cost $1000 to $2000 per year.

Solar Pool Heaters
Solar Pool Heaters are recommended for recreational pool users comfortable with pool temperatures in the 80-degree range. Sometimes, inclement weather conditions can render a pool too cold for use, but a prolonged period of warm weather will warm the pool back to a comfortable temperature. Sizing the pool properly ensures good performance. The operating expense of a solar pool heater comes from your electric bill for the operation of the pool pump. The pool pump must be in operation for the solar heater to function. Your electric bill can increase anywhere from $30 to $75 per year depending on your normal filtering time.
There is no cost for the solar power. The solar panels start around $250-$350.
